Urban Art Fair Paris 2025 : Jokin Sortwo - 'Doraemon Sorolla'

Jokin Sortwo, Spanish-Basque artist, presents his solo show titled ‘Doraemon Sorolla’.

This project explores contrasting, even contradictory, themes and painting techniques by blending tradition with contemporary imagery. One of his goals is to adapt his large-scale mural painting methods to a more confined space: his studio.

For his works, the artist employs classical techniques inspired by Joaquín Sorolla's

Impressionism. Light and textures are rendered through rapid brushstrokes, creating a sense of movement and blur. Onto this traditional foundation, he integrates references to pop culture and cartoons, influenced by his daily inspirations and a recent trip to Japan.

This dialogue between two distinct aesthetics challenges our perception of time, the speed at which our thoughts evolve, and the enduring role of art in our lives. Enriched with numerous cultural and cinematic references, Jokin Sortwo's paintings captivate viewers with their unique compositions and intriguing subjects.
